FCMS Algebra I Honors Prep

Hello Everyone!

I'm so glad that you decided to accept the challenge of Algebra I Honors and are willing to work during your vacation in order to be successful. I recommended you for the class because I know you are capable of doing great work.

A lot of what you'll see in Chapters 1 through 4 you already know, so if you can work ahead of schedule, that would be a good idea, since you might need to spend more time on Chapters 5, 6, and 7.

Remember, if you need some help, just send me an email and we'll figure it out.  I know this is a lot of work, but I hope you'll enjoy the experience.

Below is everything you need to get started.

Remember, your major goal is to LEARN THE MATERIAL and SCORE 90% OR BETTER on each CHAPTER TEST, not to do hundreds of problems that you already know how to do.

Suggested Study and Work Plan:

1.  Read through the chapter section (1-1, 1-2 are sections, remember?).

2.  View the PowerPoint for that section.

3.  When finished with each section in the chapter, complete the Chapter Review and Assessment.  On the left are explanations and examples, on the right are exercises.  To check your answers to the odd numbered problems:

4.  If you don't do as well on the Chapter Review and Assessment, go to Holt Algebra I Homework Help for more practice in the chapter and section you need.

5.  Take the online Chapter Test and score 90 percent or above.   You will be allowed to take each test three times.  Only the highest score will be recorded.  You can use a calculator but CANNOT receive assistance from anyone else. 

6.  If you don't score 90% or better, do some of the exercises listed for more practice.  The answers to the odd numbered problems are in the back of the textbook.

7.  Try the test again.

How to Access Chapter Tests:

• Have a pencil, paper, and calculator with you before you start the test.
• Click on My.HRW.com.
• Login with your Username and Password (sent via email).
• Click on "View Assignments." In the upper right where it says "Assignmnents Due,"  change "This Week" to "All."
• Click on "Begin Test" for the test you want to take.
• You will have 60 minutes for each test.
• You can stop and finish later if you click on "Pause."
• If you logout without finishing or clicking "Pause," all of your answers will be lost and you'll have to start over.
• When finished, click on "Score My Test."

 

NOTE: If you prefer to work on paper:

• Click on "Begin Test."
• Print out each page of the test.
• Click "Pause."
• Work out all the problems and choose your answers.
• Click on "Begin Test" and fill in your answers.
• When finished, click on "Score My Test."

How to View Your Test Scores:

• Click on  My.HRW.com.
• Login with your Username and Password (sent via email)
• Click on "View Progress Reports." In the upper right where it says "Assignmnents Due,"  change "This Week" to "All."

• Since a great deal of Chapters 1 through 4  you know from Pre-Algebra, please feel free to work ahead of the Assignment Schedule and complete chapter tests ahead of time.  Chapters 1 through 4 will go quickly, but I'm SURE you will need more time for 5, 6, and 7.
