FCMS Summer Math
Keep Your Math Skills Sharp!
NEWSFLASH! New benchmark tests available on FCAT Focus!
Welcome to Fort Clarke Middle School Summer Math! Here you'll be able to review all that you learned this past year, keep your skills sharp, learn some new skills and concepts, as well as having some mathematical fun with math puzzles, games, and online manipulatives.
We're very excited that so many students are interested in getting involved. Remember, all the work and effort you devote to maintaining your math skills during the summer will benefit you next year.
See what part of the Fort Clarke Middle School Summer Math program helps you most and is most enjoyable, and let us know by sending Mr. Yurish an email ( yurishg@gm.sbac.edu ) Let's get started!
If you just finished 6th grade, use the 6th grade links, and the textbook you used this past year, same for 7th and 8th grade.
Here's a suggested plan for some serious Summer Math learning:
1. Go to FCAT Focus . Here you can take the "First Assessment" for all of the Sunshine State Standards Benchmarks labeled MA.C "Geometry and Spatial Sense," MA.D "Algebraic Thinking," and MA.E "Data Analysis and Probability."
Take some notes on the problems you don't get correct, so you can work on those skills. Find those kinds of problems on the textbook publishers sites, or AAAMath.com. I'll be posting a schedule as to when assessments will be available and for how long, since we can't open all the assessments at once.
Your username and password are the same ones you used for FCAT Explorer. If you don't remember them, just follow the example:
Let's say my name is Harry Potter and my birthday is March 15th.
username: (last name + first letter of first name) potterh
password: (01 + first 4 letters of last name + birthday month and day) 01pott0315
If you login and have no assessments, send Mr. Yurish an email (yurishg@gm.sbac.edu) with your full name and month and day of your birthday. You'll receive an email back with your Username and Password right away!
2. Go to your textbook publisher's website for instruction, practice, quizzes, and tests. (By grade level below)
3. View the PowerPoints for your textbook (See menu on left). Click on "Summer Math PowerPoints" then the name of your textbook. When you click on the chapter or chapter section PowerPoint you need, you'll be asked to save it.
The best choice might be to save the PowerPoint to your desktop, so it will be easy to find, and also easy to delete when you no longer need it.
4. Visit some of the websites (Click on "FCMS Summer Math Links" on the menu on left) for skills practice, basic fact practice, online manipulatives for exploration of concepts in a "hands-on" way, and puzzles and games.
5. Go back to FCAT Focus and take the "Second Assessment" for each Sunshine State Standards Benchmark and view your progress!
Work hard, work smart, and ENJOY!
